South African Christmas Gift Guide
Looking for the perfect South African gifts this Christmas? From home décor to beauty, clothing, jewellery, and accessories, this guide has something for everyone, whether you are after a splurge-worthy treat or a small but special stocking filler.
‘Tis the season to shop, and this year, I’m keeping it local all the way!
Honestly, scrolling the internet wasn’t cutting it, so I did the sensible thing and asked you guys. And wow. You absolutely did not disappoint. I was introduced to a whole bunch of brilliant South African brands I had never even heard of (which feels criminal, honestly). After going through everything, from spoil-yourself splurges to tiny but mighty stocking fillers, I can confidently say this: South Africa is bursting at the seams with creativity. The only hard part? Choosing. Because truly, we have the goods.
Home Decor
I first spotted By John Designs this spring at Kamers and fell in love instantly. The colours, the textures, the prints — everything was calling my name. Their website is basically a rainbow on steroids (in the best possible way), and choosing just one thing for this list felt borderline impossible.
But their pink and red velvet scatter cushion? That one stopped me in my tracks. It’s bold, it’s juicy, and it’s going to look absolutely perfect on our cobalt blue velvet couch — which is already living its best life in a sea of random tropical prints.
Prêt-á-Pot has been around since 1985, quietly (and beautifully) perfecting functional ceramics that evolve with every season. And listen… I am obsessed with this lobster platter. Yes, the lobster motif is everywhere right now, but if you’re anything like me, you’re not here for trends - you just love bringing a little ocean magic into your home.
The Scalloped Oval Deep Platter (R1,250) is a total showstopper, and it pairs so perfectly with their Fluted Side Plates (R195) that it almost feels rude not to get both.
I stumbled upon Arabesque Curated Boutique completely by accident, and honestly, I’m so glad I did. Their website is basically a party of colour and bold tropical prints, my kind of chaos. I went in planning to pick just one scatter cushion… and well, that didn’t happen. So instead, here’s the link to all of them. You’re welcome.
This little gem was voted one of the top shopping destinations along the Garden Route, so if you’re anywhere nearby this festive season, definitely pop in! And yes, I’ll be there too this December. (They’ve also got stores in Stellenbosch and Durbanville, just in case you’re plotting a festive road trip 😉)
Mylk is such a quirky little brand, and I cannot wait to get my hands (and nose) on their De Coconut Scented Candle. I’m a total sucker for anything beachy and coconutty, so this one was an immediate “add to cart.” A little more about the brand… Mylk is on a mission to break the cycle of unnecessary candle waste. They created their own signature “Mylk” formula, a dreamy blend of soy-coconut wax, natural ingredients, and custom perfume compositions, and then took it a step further with a refill system. Basically, you keep your favourite candle vessel forever, cut down on waste, and focus on what really matters: the scent. And honestly? I love that.
Beauty
I just cannot get enough of brands that go the extra mile and slip a little surprise into your order. Am I the only one who gets ridiculously excited about that? Probably not. Anyway, I grabbed a scrub from Sundae Skin Co, and they sent me a sample of their Unicorn Crush whipped body butter — and wow. Oh. My. Gosh. The scent is heavenly, a little goes a long way, and it just melts into your skin, leaving it silky, hydrated, and basically glowing.
Oooh, this list just wouldn’t be complete without one of my absolute favourites, Plain Cosmetics’ Poloma Oil Bar. This little ultra-moisturising bar revives and brightens skin, helps shield against UV rays, and generally protects your skin from damage.
Now, a quick PSA: read the instructions! For someone like me, who loves writing but is terrible at reading instructions, I wasted a fair bit the first time. My genius idea? Using it in the bath. Here’s the proper way: after your bath, dry off, then glide the oil bar over your skin like soap and let it melt in. It’s luxurious, indulgent, and the perfect gift for anyone who loves a little extra pampering at bath time. Just a heads-up: don’t overdo it right before heading to the beach unless you want sand stuck everywhere.
And the best part? All their skin goodies are packaged with the earth in mind, in low-waste boxes. You get glossy, nourished skin and a happy conscience. Win-win.
Parfuum was one of the brands tagged in a post I made, and honestly, I’m so grateful. They sent me their Discovery Set to try, and I was completely blown away. The set itself is absolutely gorgeous, perfect for the holiday season, and the packaging did not disappoint.
And the scent! The moment I opened it, the fragrance filled the air, and I may have sniffed it more than I should admit. These are not your average perfumes. Each note feels like a tiny piece of our beautiful country captured in a bottle. This is genuinely a gift that deserves a spot on the list, 100 percent. And for R550, that’s a steal!
Don’t sleep on this next gift. It’s tiny, but whoever ends up with it in their stocking (or as a Secret Santa surprise) will love you for it. If your lucky recipient loves long, indulgent baths, this is it. Rain’s Butterball Cleopatra’s Gold & Milk Bathbomb smells absolutely divine, leaves your skin silky soft, and makes you smell like an actual Egyptian queen.
Fair warning: all that luxury can get slippery, so step out of the bath with caution! You can snag it online or in their stores, and they’re always stocked up, just in case you need a last-minute gift rescue.
Clothing
If you’ve been anywhere near Instagram or your local boutiques lately, you’ve probably noticed Me&B, the mother-and-daughter duo bringing bold, colourful fashion to SA. This summer is all about bright, playful patterns, and my wishlist includes the Black Palm Anglaise Border Babydoll Dress paired with the Starfish Silver Sandal. Don’t skip their jewellery section either, because there are so many cute, colourful finds. I have the Glass Sun Hoop earrings, and I cannot even tell you how many compliments I get every time I wear them.
And if you really want to wow someone special, check out the Woven Fish Bag by Mia Mélange, handcrafted from natural jute. It’s playful, fun, and guaranteed to get noticed.
Bambalam, straight out of Cape Town, is a total mood, colourful, vibey, and full of personality. What I love about them is that they are not just about making cute clothes; they care about being kind to the planet too. Every piece is made locally in Cape Town and they work hard to create as little waste as possible, even repurposing fabric scraps into new designs.
They have dungarees for days, funky corduroy jackets, playful crop tops, hats, and even kids’ pieces, all with that signature Bambalam energy. Their clothes feel like wearable art, bold, fun, inclusive, and unapologetically you. If you are into fashion that is not only stylish but also conscious, clothes with colour, character, and a story behind them, Bambalam is a no‑brainer addition to your wishlist.
The next item is something I have had my eye on for a while, Takkleberry’s breathable, lace-trimmed cotton luxury nighty. Personally, I will go with the coconut milk. You can choose between mid or full-length and pick from eight adult colours, moving towards subtle sexy while donating those old PJs.
While browsing their website, I also fell in love with the Lia Bra and Thong set. It looks both pretty and comfortable, which is exactly what I am all about.
At Droomkind, they create small collections of one-of-a-kind sleepwear that is feminine, pretty, and designed to make you feel like your most beautiful, comfortable self. Each piece is made to order, their way of contributing to a more sustainable fashion industry. I love the idea of supporting a young company before they become famous. This Christmas, they just launched their Christmas Dream Sets, featuring the Stella Set & Dress. Made from 100% cotton in a charming red pin-check print, the Stella set brings the cosy cheer of the season to life. Finished with playful green floral trimmings, it is both classic and delightfully fun.
I am ending this section strong with Beach Cult. Summer is here, and we are all headed to the water, so it is the perfect time to grab some beach-ready pieces. I picked up the Midnight Moon set last year, and honestly, the quality is next-level. With so many colours, patterns, and styles to choose from, you are bound to find something you want to take home, or maybe even wear straight out of the store.
This season, I am loving their Riviera collection, packed with pieces that can effortlessly take you from a lazy beach day to a sunset wedding. And just like all the brands on this list, Beach Cult keeps it ethical, making everything right here in South Africa.
Jewellery
Ooooh my goodness, I am usually such a minimalist when it comes to jewellery, but this bulky Harmony Ear Cuff by Veers Jewellery is a total showstopper. Perfect for those days when you feel like stepping out of the ordinary and straight into the extraordinary. The prices change depending on the material you choose, from silver, to plated gold, or solid gold set with cubic zirconias.
Another lekker, vibey brand you have to check out is Soul Design. From jewellery to clothing, and now even Christmas ornaments, their designs are all inspired by our beautiful continent. You can see their love and appreciation of Africa in every detail. The Cowrie Shell Necklace stood out for me, I have always loved hunting for cowries on Mozambican beaches with my mom when I was a little girl. The charm is handmade from sustainably sourced shells, which makes it even more special.
For the ladies who love delicate, handmade jewellery, you cannot go wrong with Nina Bosch. Her Daisy Earrings are part of her bridal collection, but they also remind me of my mother, who loves daisies. Each pair is painted with radiant 18k gold lustre, giving a luminous touch to their floral silhouette. Because of the delicate nature of her work, a lead time of 10 to 14 business days is normal. If you need an order urgently, you can get in touch and she will happily help. These earrings make such a thoughtful gift for that special person in your life.
Another super cool brand is Jimnojean. I just love their whole vibe and it makes me want to join their club. The Juicy Gems rings come in three colours, lilac, peach, and emerald, and they are perfect for stacking or rocking a pinky ring. They are ideal for anyone who loves mixing and matching layers.
Looking for something more sophisticated? They have a collab with Tori (Kiss, Blush & Tell). Their An Ode to Her by KBT collection comes in two sets. The blue set is R1700 and features two huggie earring sets with shaped cubic zirconias plus a small bobble set of huggies. The pink set also has two earring sets, with the larger pair featuring a marquise moissanite and a plain chubby huggy that complements it perfectly.
Accessories & Essentials
I have been eying this bag for quite some time, the bold striped shopper by Porter. You can effortlessly go from the beach to restaurants with this bright red and powder blue striped bag for R690. From the looks of it, they are selling out fast, so it is best to add it to your cart before you miss out. A little about their story: Porter was born from three South African entrepreneurs, each operating in the retail industry, who shared the same love for creating beautiful, functional carriers.
Every South African knows the importance of a good hat during the summer holidays. Whether you are on the beach, in the bush, or by the pool, the sun is hot. After all the rain we have been having, it feels even hotter! This is where Morals the Brand enters the chat. They have a huge collection of styles in the cutest patterns and colours. They have also launched T-shirts and totes in their signature happy style.
For the past nine years, I have been shopping for diaries at Typo. They are cute, fun, colourful, and functional. But this year I decided to switch it up with the Azor Diary planners, the perfect gift for yourself. They are classy, locally bound right here in South Africa, and come in so many colours it was hard to choose. I went with Margot Robbie Pink, something to brighten every day of 2026. They cost R525, shipping included, and you can add the optional dust bag to keep your planner safe while travelling. Mine just stays in the office, but those little dust bags are super handy when you hit the road.
Retro is back, and this next one is seriously cool. The Ubuntu Film Co Travel Bundle is limited edition, so don’t hang around too long before snagging one. Sustainability is key, instead of disposable film cameras, these beauties are reusable, environmentally friendly, and come in nine fun colours, all using 35mm film. Perfect for capturing the season’s most precious memories, this is hands down one of the hottest new accessories in town. Bring a little nostalgia with you, and make every photo a story.
Listen, Linda, I am starting Christmas off strong because I am so excited about this. My favourite Reindeer Food is back in stock! Celebrate the season with something sweet. These cracker-style boxes are filled with a mix of delicious salted caramel popcorn and crunchy pretzels, all drizzled with luxurious dollops of white and dark chocolate. It is absolutely heavenly. This limited edition snack is only available during the festive season, so be sure to grab it before it disappears. You can buy them online or in-store at Poetry, Yuppiechef or via Ma Mére’s website.
